After installing update KB5031354, Windows 11 users are experiencing issues in games

Users of the Windows 11 operating system report that after installing update KB5031354, they have begun to encounter problems in games and with the “Explorer.”

Some of the OS owners write that games, including the highly anticipated project Starfield, are ending with an error code 0x89245106. According to Microsoft’s documentation, this error indicates that the operating system couldn’t determine the default user for the game.

“I have the same problem. I can’t play Forza, Starfield, or Lies of P after the latest Windows update,” one user posted on Reddit.

There are also reports that when trying to open the “Start” menu, further attempts to select “Settings” or “Explorer” result in a crash.

There is no official information about these errors on the Microsoft website. However, journalists from the Windows Latest publication were able to reproduce them on Windows 11 build 22621.2428.
